Side by Side Conference

Side by SideThe ‘Side by Side’ Conference, for service providers working with Muslim communities on 30 April, 2008 at the Adelaide Festival centre Banquet Room was highly successful. Over 350 participants found the level of presentation matched their expectations. They related very practically to the issues they face in their day to day work. Real engagement with the speakers and lively discussions continued throughout the day.

In organising the conference, ARA was supported by Lutheran Community Care (LCC), Migrant Health Service (MHS), Multicultural Youth SA (MYSA), Muslim Women’s Association, SA Equal Opportunities Commission and STTARS (Survivors of Torture and Trauma Assistance and Rehabilitation Service).

ARA Assistant Director Christine Loveday welcomed the participants following a performance by the Islamic College Choir.  Attorney General, Michael Atkinson formally opened the conference and launched the booklet “A practical guide to providing services to Muslim People” a joint project of the Muslim Women’s Association and STTARS.
