African Worker’s Network
AFRICAN WORKER’S NETWORK (AWN)
The aim of this Network is to identify issues and address needs that hinder refugee arrivals from fully settling into Australian society. Working Parties target areas of interest and expertise by combining agency resources, knowledge and commitment to work together on practical solutions. (All this is done while competing for funds and grants - which demonstrates that agencies reliant on funding can and do work together.) Works achieved by the Network are shared with services to benefit all people from refugee backgrounds.
The African Workers Network consists of over 80 agencies and community groups that are actively involved in the settlement of African refugee arrivals. Participants share ideas, promote humanitarian compassion for the work that we all do and include groups such as:
• Refugee communities
• Settlement Services
• Schools
• Churches
• Government Services
Current working parties include:
• Youth Working Party (YAWN)
• Local Council Party (LAWN)
• Families Working Party (FAWN)
• Communications Working Party (CAWN)
